Osteopathic Self-Treatment With Continuum Movement

For participants with previous Continuum experience.

In this workshop we will explore the creative potential that is available when combining the principles of Osteopathic Treatment and the practice of Continuum Movement. Osteopathy and Continuum are both based on a philosophy that trusts in the deep wisdom of the body to be self-healing when allowed to fully express and freely organize movement. Many of the problems I treat in my Osteopathic practice can be easily remedied by patients themselves by re-learning to interweave the bodies’ natural tendency to breathe, move, and rest into their lives. Development of our kinesthetic sense—the sensation and awareness we have of our own movement—is the key to this process. Continuum Movement is the only approach I’ve found that elicits a powerfully healing and reverent process that parallels Osteopathic Treatment, and it empowers each participant to access this ability on their own.

This workshop is an invitation to engage in an experience, a felt-sense of many concepts that are usually only experienced while being treated by an Osteopath. This experience is valuable both as a way to learn self-treatment, and for health care practitioners, as a way to develop and deepen one’s diagnostic and treatment skills. Previous Continuum experience is required for this workshop. Experienced participants are invited to find a greater depth of exploration in this workshop.

To explore this realm, we will cultivate awareness to our internal experience through breath, sound, and movement. Participants learn to trust that there is deep wisdom that guides the body to self-correct. Stepping outside of our preconceived notions and the popular cultural models of what we think of as “the body” we can discover the deep inner world that is an unending resource for healing, adaptability, and change.
